This is just something I find interesting about my coleus plant. I have a few variants of the coleus plant with foliages of different shades. One fine day, I noticed something peculiar about this one coleus plant, which I grew from a cutting I took from the parent plant I bought at Giant. It turned out that a leaf on this plant actually appears different from the rest of the leaves of this variant. Instead, it is the same as the other variant I have, both in colour and design. Anyways, I think it's easier to just show what I mean with pictures. Maybe it's not that peculiar!

This is the coleus with the peculiar leaf.
The other variant I am talking about. Observe the leaf colour and design of this plant.

The peculiar leaf standing out from the rest of the leaves that define this variant I have. This leaf looks just like the ones above.

Besides my coleus, I have an update on some of the other plants that are currently residing along my corridor. More pictures below.

Ocimum Basilicum
Wormwood after a full trimming, Thank goodness it's growing again.
My codariocalyx desmodium, as promised. This is the younger of the two "gyrans" I have.
Peppermint I just got.
Thai Basil, I believe.

That's all for now. Bye.

As always, I am passionate about gardening with my favourite plants to cultivate being herbs. However, that said, I feel that I have not been doing my gardening correctly. As a self-proclaimed amateur gardener, I believe there's definitely a lot to be learned. I just hope I can get my "corridor garden" the exuberance and splendour deserving of the wondrous plants I have.

These few days have been absolutely inspiring for me. After reading some blog entries and watching youtube entries for some edification, I reckon my desire for gardening has been renewed, not that it has ever really waned or anything. The truth is, I get depressed sometimes when I don't get the results I expected and this disappointed had translated to maybe a short hiatus from caring for my plants sometimes, sorry to say. There should be no reason to short-change my plants anymore, hopefully, from this point on. Even if I may fail in the future, I'm giving it a 25% chance of that with p=0.05 (no reason for this stats), I should just move ahead and just learn from this experience. Right now, it feels like a fresh start for me and I should stay positive about the outcome of the yield. Fingers crossed! Updates coming soon.

Watch this space.

The codariocalyx gyrans plant is truly amazing. I just discovered recently that the leaves, albeit only the smaller ones, can actually move on their own. This observation is congruent with the materials I have read and watched online and adds to the intrigue I have for the plant. Ergo, I would really hope to understand the plant even further, starting maybe from the reason and method of its twitching.

My gyrans is growing and I find it extremely exciting. I can't wait to see it dancing before me but that would take some time for the leaves to develop. So far, the seedlings of codariocalyx gyrans have just been growing for a short time; I have in total only 3 seedlings and only one has produced its true leaves. As such, I reckon it will still take some time before I can witness what gets me excited the most: dancing leaves. I really cannot wait!

Pictures of the plant will be posted in time to come, as soon as the plant establishes itself further with more leaves to boot.

Codariocalyx gyrans and perilla

Inadvertent as it was, I was back to seed shopping again even though I still have packs of unopened seeds ready to be sowed. It wasn't my intention to get any seeds at this moment but I was at Market place Rafflescity and there they were, seeds! Among the many packets, two particular plant seeds caught my attention: see title.

It was really serendipity that I found the gyrans plant I wanted to grow a long time after learning about it from desmodium gyrans. Imagine my excitement when I found the seeds on the rack; I can hardly contain my excitement now as I put these in words. It was really a good find and I hope I can get the plant to germinate and subsequently grow; I would absolutely love to do a study on it, with the limited resources and knowledge I have. Most certainly, it would be a joy and delight to watch it dance. I am filled with fascination already.

Besides the gyrans (codariocalyx gyrans), I found another herb plant that I have no knowledge of whatsoever. Perilla frutescens, I found after googling it, belongs to the mint family; that's basically all I know at this point. Nevertheless, I look forward to learning more about it as I have since sown the seeds. As I await its germination and growth, I will sow my gyrans seeds soon as I cannot wait to get both plants greeting me every morning as I walk down the corridor to school.

I really wanted to post some pictures of my plants on this blog. For that reason, voila, here I am to do so. I'm quite surprised to find a "Add image" option here. What an amateur of a blogger I am. Phew, now that I am aware of this function, I shall find it more a breeze to put up pictures on my blog(s) instead of the usual photobucket upload and URL pasting.

Ok, enough blabbering, here are the pictures.

In memoriam:

Living and kicking ass:

Above are just some pictures I took from my corridor garden. There are actually more plants waiting to be displayed. I absolutely love love love my plants.

This has been a period of crazy plant acquisition sprees. Over the past few weeks, I have in total bought three pots of African violets, different floral colours of course, some herbs e.g. Cinnamon Basil and a pot of Gloxina which adds to the collection of two types of Gloxinia that I already have. With the recent additions, my corridor garden is now teeming with plants and I may have some problems having to attend to them. My greatest concern now is the space problem as a corridor can only accomodate a certain number of plants. However, with my expansion of the collection and the desire to propagate what I have now, I foresee many plants inappropriately placed and some even blocking the passageway when I have to resort to putting them on the floor. I certainly got to resolve this issue soon but in the meantime, I think I should just concentrate on tending to them first. Well, contradictory as it may sound, I think I am more interested in ensuring that my plants grow well first. Even though it is highly inconsiderate of me to suggest that, plants are still the main priority and I would definitely do my best to see to their robust development and growth.
